Saint Francis University is one of the oldest Catholic colleges in the United States. Its history dates back to 1847, when Pittsburgh Bishop Michael O'Connor invited six Franciscan friars from Ireland to establish a school near Loretto, Pa. The friars cleared the land and constructed the foundations for what would later become the university. Today the Christian college offers more than 30 graduate and undergraduate programs to its approximately 2,000 students online and at its 600-acre campus. The school holds institutional accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, as well as specialized accreditation from the American Occupational Therapy Association, American Physical Therapy Association, and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Online Learning at Saint Francis University

The university offers one fully online degree: a master of health science. This degree combines study in public health and health administration to prepare students for leadership roles in healthcare organizations. It encourages students to respond to service needs by using an evidence-based approach while also emphasizing ethical and leadership considerations. This program includes study in health policy strategies, research methodology, healthcare systems management, and leadership.

Saint Francis University also offers individual online courses in history, business, Spanish, mathematics, philosophy, and sociology. The university's online courses are offered through Blackboard, a popular course management system that enables students to participate in discussion forms, contact their peers and professors, stream video, and access on-demand lecture presentations. Generally speaking, distance education enables students to fit completing their course work into their busy schedules. They can access their course materials at any time and from anywhere that has Internet access. Given that the program and courses are offered by a Catholic university it's a good fit for students who are looking for an online Christian education.
