Probably best known as the home to the famous granite carving in the mountainside, Mt. Rushmore, South Dakota also plays host to the Badlands, the Black Hills–site of the gold rush in the late 1800s–and home to such famous and infamous figures as Crazy Horse, Custer, Wild Bill Hickok, and Sitting Bull. In addition to its history, South Dakota has gorgeous mountains, rolling farmland, and flat prairies as far as the eye can see. Until 2002, South Dakota was also home to the oldest and largest mine in the western hemisphere.
Mining continues to play an important role in the economy of South Dakota, as does farming, manufacturing, and tourism. South Dakota’s "hot careers," as published by the South Dakota Department of Labor, indicates that jobs in the computer and health care industries will be growing the fastest and paying the highest wages. Most of these positions require education beyond high school with many requiring a minimum of an associate or Bachelor’s degree.
One way to ensure you have the education you need for a successful career in South Dakota is to earn your degree at one of the Christian universities or Bible colleges in the state. These schools offer plenty of options for students. Larger schools, such as University of Sioux Falls, offers a wide variety of majors including both traditional fields of study and religious fields of study. These schools may also offer a range of degree levels from an associate to Bachelor’s to graduate degrees. Other types of schools may be smaller and offer a more specifically religious training experience. North American Baptist Seminary is one example of a smaller school with this tight focus. Here, students can earn degrees in fields such as Bible Study or Religious Music. Either path you choose, getting your degree at a Christian school in South Dakota will ensure your education is founded in an environment of your faith.
