Somerset Christian College was established as a ministry of the Pillar of Fire, International in 1908 under the original name of Zarephath Bible Institute (ZBI). In 2001, it became known by its current name and was issued a license to grant associate degrees. Five years later, in 2006, the institution was given approval to grant four-year degrees. Since that time, the New Jersey college has maintained a low student-faculty ratio and enrolled less than 300 students in the past few years. The institution strives to maintain a high standard for its curriculum, which adheres to the biblical principles the school was founded on.
Online Learning at Somerset Christian College
Somerset Christian College (SCC) gives students the chance to ease their schedules somewhat by providing several courses in an online format. This allows students to attend campus part-time and complete a portion of their studies from any location convenient to them. For the summer of 2013, SCC has offered two courses that can be taken online.
The online courses last nine weeks and are conducted entirely through the distance learning platform. Students can submit assignments, communicate with fellow classmates, or ask their instructors questions remotely. SCC has indicated plans to expand its online course offerings in the future to allow more flexibility for students and expand the reach of its academic programs.
Enrolling at Somerset Christian College
Somerset Christian evaluates students applying for admission on the basis of academic and moral standard. The goal is to ensure that students with standards aligning closest to the school and who are most likely to succeed are admitted to the programs. Upon receiving applications for enrollment, admission is determined by SCC by the following criteria:
Prospective Undergraduate Students
- High school and/or college transcripts
- Personal essay
- Recommendation forms
- English Placement Exam
- 2.0 GPA on previous college course work
Students seeking admission to the Life Enhancing Accelerated Degree (LEAD) program must provide proof of completion of at least 48 transferable college credits. For the LEAD Organizational Leadership major, students may provide an Employer Recommendation Form instead of the Pastoral Recommendation Form.
