Jarvis Christian College wants to produce graduates that are well-prepared to enter the professional world and meet their personal and spiritual goals. Faculty and staff work to motivate, educate and mold students to help them meet their full potential. Students will receive a strong liberal arts education in the Judeo-Christian tradition that will enable them to pursue their professional careers in a competitive world market and return to their communities as effective, strong leaders and role models.
Founded in 1912 by Thomas Buchanan Frost, Jarvis Christian College has almost 100 years of experience providing education and support to its students. While historically a black college, today the school encourages the enrollment of students of all races. The school is affiliated with the Disciples of Christ, a Protestant denomination that proclaims and celebrates Jesus Christ. Today, the schoolís main campus is located in Hawkins, Texas and enrolls hundreds of students who participate in a wide variety of academic programs and majors.
Students at Jarvis can work towards Bachelorís degrees in a wide range of majors that include Biology, Business Administration, Pre-Medicine, Chemistry, Computer Science, Marketing, Information Studies, Journalism and much more. Students who cannot make it to campus regularly can enroll in distance learning programs allowing them to more easily balance work and familial commitments while completing a degree. Those looking for a little adventure can sign up to study abroad through the schoolís program. Teacher certification is also offered for those who want to pursue a career in education in a Christian setting or otherwise.
Students attending Jarvis wonít be alone in their studies. In addition to support from faculty, students will get support and academic help at the Learning Center, Writing Center and from tutoring. Students who want an extra challenge can enroll in an honors program, take accelerated courses, double major, or participate in one of the many internship programs offered by the school. Students will also get support in personal issues from counseling on campus, campus ministries, veteran counseling, and help finding work after college with career counseling. Opportunities for fun and school involvement are also available with a variety of clubs and collegiate sports teams.
