Christian Colleges in Louisiana

Louisiana hosts a large membership of devoted Christians of various denominations. The Association of Religion Data Archives (ARDA) reports Evangelical Protestants were the largest Christian group in Louisiana in 2010, with the most adherents belonging to Southern Baptist and Methodist congregations.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Assemblies of God, and the International Pentecostal Holiness Church reported the largest individual increases in adherents from 2005-2011 in this state. The Catholic faith is also represented in large numbers in Louisiana, with over one million adherents, and over 500 congregations statewide.

Education in Louisiana

Louisiana is home to one of the top-ranking Christian schools in the nation. Louisiana College ranked among the top regional colleges in the South, according to U.S. News and World Report, offers a compendium of traditional and online academic programs in various areas of study, in addition to the many options delivered exclusively through the school’s Division of Christian Studies. The state has made focused efforts in recent years to improve higher education and advance overall university enrollment, as part of statewide recovery initiatives since Hurricane Katrina, ultimately reflecting a 33.3% increase in college enrollment in Louisiana between 2005 and 2010.

While only one Louisiana Christian college is gaining national recognition as yet, overall state efforts to prioritize education and rebuild since the widespread devastation of Hurricane Katrina are beginning to pay off.

Working in Louisiana

Employment in Louisiana is diverse and allows for a wide variety of occupations and industry jobs. According to the U.S. Census, the educational services, and health care and social assistance industry, followed by retail trade industry, offered the highest employment rates in the state as of 2011. Over one third of the Louisiana labor force held occupations in management, business, science, and the arts, while nearly a quarter of the remaining workforce held sales and office occupations.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) also lists trade, transportation, and utilities, as well as government jobs, respectively, among the top jobs in the state in February of this year.
